GUIDE

When should you try pointer stabilization on a Mac—and when should you not?

Try pointer stabilization for a specific pointer-control problem, compare it with the original response, and keep it only if the difference helps. It is not a drawing tool, medical product, or universal compatibility promise.

Quick answer

Try it when small, unintended movement makes a compact on-screen target harder to reach or hold. Do not use it expecting a mouse to behave like a pen tablet, or expecting a guaranteed result. Stillpoint changes pointer response only while you choose to keep the assistance on.

Try pointer stabilization when

You can see a repeatable problem near small buttons, handles, or other compact targets: the pointer is close, but small unintended movement makes the final placement harder. Start with Light, then compare Off, Light, Medium, and Strong. Strong filters more small movement, but may also feel less immediate.

The current verified hardware evidence covers a standard mouse, including Off/Light/Medium/Strong, clicking, double-clicking, dragging, and the physical emergency shortcut.

Do not use it as

A drawing tablet replacement. Stillpoint is not drawing software and does not turn a mouse into a pen.

A medical device or treatment. It does not diagnose, treat, or promise an outcome for any health condition.

A universal compatibility guarantee. Trackpad, trackball, and complete VoiceOver use are not yet verified. These remain post-release checks, and the product does not claim the same effect for every person, device, or setup.

Keep repeat-click protection separate

Repeat-click protection is independent from pointer stabilization and is off by default. If you enable it, test your normal double-click and dragging inside the app. Turn it off immediately if it changes a click you intended to make.

How to stop and restore control

Every launch starts with pointer stabilization and repeat-click protection off. To stop both without aiming at a small control, press Control + Option + Command + Escape. Turning assistance off in the app or quitting Stillpoint restores unassisted pointer input. If permission is revoked or event monitoring fails, Stillpoint stops assisting rather than continuing in an uncertain state.

What stays on your Mac

Pointer processing happens locally in memory. Stillpoint does not save or upload real pointer trajectories, read screen or window content, use analytics, or connect to a cloud service. It uses public macOS APIs and does not install a driver, require root access, or use private APIs.

Decide with a short comparison

Choose one small target you actually use, try it with assistance Off, then repeat with Light. Continue only if the change is useful and comfortable. If you cannot notice a useful difference, leave stabilization off.
